A matter of the heart

For some, egg donation is a difficult decision to reach. Our team is experienced and we know a lot about egg donation, so we will be there to support you every step of the way. From the first conversations to the completion of the treatment itself, we endeavour to create a safe and supportive process.

Egg donation is a matter of the heart for us, and we take great care to look after both donor and recipient. We meet both parties, and it is important to us that both procedures are safe and responsible.

Who are the egg donors?

There are a number of women who want to help you fulfil your dream of having a family. These are women between the ages of 18 and 35 who seek out the opportunity to become egg donors themselves. Some have children of their own and therefore know the feeling of parental joy, which they sincerely want to pass on to others.

At IVF-SYD, our patient coordinators have the direct contact with the egg donors. They have had a personal conversation with each donor, where the entire process has been clarified. During the conversation the donors are, among other things, asked about what egg donation means for them.

Our requirements for egg donors are that they must be healthy, of normal weight, non-smokers and have no hereditary diseases in the family. However, it should be emphasised that we cannot test for hereditary diseases. The egg donor must also test negative for syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B and C.

What am I allowed to know about the egg donor?

An anonymous egg donor is not known by the recipient, but information about skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, height, weight, blood type and age can be obtained.

A non-anonymous (open) egg donor has agreed to let the child receive more information about the donor. This includes permission to contact the egg donor when the child turns 18.

Who is eligible for egg donation?

  • Women whose own eggs cannot lead to pregnancy.
  • Women who have gone through early menopause and therefore no longer produce eggs.
  • Women who have Turner’s syndrome and were born without ovaries.
  • Women who have had their ovaries removed due to cancer, endometriosis or infection.

1.

Consultation and sperm analysis

If you would like to be put on the waiting list to receive donor eggs at IVF-SYD, the first step is to come to an initial consultation at the clinic.

At the consultation, you will meet the doctor who will, among other things, perform an ultrasound scan of the womans uterus. You will also meet one of our patient coordinators, who will talk to you about the egg donation process.

The man can provide a sperm sample before or after the consultation. It can be frozen, to be used later to fertilize the donor eggs. This will be arranged, when you book the consultation.

If you have to use donor sperm, we always have anonymous donor sperm in stock at the clinic. If you wish to use non-anonymous donor sperm, you must order it at a sperm bank and have it sent to the clinic.

2.

Waiting time

Once you have been at the consultation and you have signed a contract, the patient coordinators will start looking for the right egg donor for you.

Depending on your requirements for the egg donor, there may be a waiting time of up to six months.

3.

When there are eggs for you

When a successful donation has been made and there are one or more blastocysts in the freezer, you will be contacted by phone by a patient coordinator. On this occasion, you will talk about how and when to start your treatment.

Double donation

You can receive both donor eggs and donor sperm in the same treatment, but it is a requirement that at least one of the donors (either egg or sperm donor) is non-anonymous.
